Hazel Lyth is a councillor in Stoke and a cabinet member on Stoke-on-Trent City Council. She talks about why she became a councillor; her sense of frustration that so many people seem to be unrepresented in politics. The challenge for places like Stoke is to find new ways of tapping into the creative genius of the communities that live there. Regeneration depends on local councils digging down to the grassroots and changing the way people feel about themselves and the place they live. Councillor Lyth is worried about the disengagement from politics many people – particularly young people – feel.
